Twitter-Bottom Ramen of Social Networking [May. 19th, 2009|05:09 pm]
[Current Mood |geekygeeky]

I believe that reading Twitter is a punishment and not a privilege. While it seems to have taken hold, I often pray that it is a passing fad.

I do however understand why some people enjoy Twitter and Facebook and not Livejournal. People who don't at their core really like to read and write but want to do social networking and feel connected.

Here's my take of social networking sites:
1. Livejournal-I love it beyond words mostly because I like to read and it has lots of text sprinkled with photos in most cases, dominated by photos in other cases.
2. Facebook-Quality is better than MySpace and at least the updates are often more interesting than Twitter?
3. MySpace-Very picture heavy but buggy. I don't love it.
4. Twitter-I wish it would go away. To me is it as annoying as dental work except at least dental work has good results? I have no ill will towards those who use it, but I have no interest in reading the tweets. It causes me no pain to scroll past them however so this isn't meant to offend any of the majority of people who use and enjoy twitter.

Anyhow, I believe it is ok to be a technology enthusiast who doesn't twitter. I do livejournal because I like to read and write. I do Facebook because enough people invited me that I needed one to see their pictures and I do like how well it works for sharing pictures although the whole "note" thing is pretty lame to me compared to Livejournal. I got a MySpace because I felt I needed one to stay connected to real life friends. I hope to be a twitter holdout for a long time to come.

Twitter et al

I was trying to figure out why I no longer find facebook exciting and I think you hit the nail on the head. Because there's no real blogging on facebook I find it getting increasingly boring. Through reading my blogging buddies I get a lot more enjoyment. I recently deactivated my facebook to stop signing in so much but will admit my friend got me to sign up to twitter today. I'm going to see how it is. I like that I can share political opinions and opinions on important topics and follow celebrities. The only other good thing I can see about Twitter is if you send tweets to CNN and make them actually count for something. Otherwise, I am pretty sure that nobody wants to know every inane detail about one's day!

Re: Twitter et al

I hope you enjoy it. I wrote this blog mostly because I was shocked at how negative my response to it was as in general I'm a big fan of social networking and usually I'm a bit of an early adopter.
