My toe is FUBAR a bit. It won't heal. It isn't broken. It's significantly swollen. I will get an x-ray and be seen by an orthopedic specialist. It is quite likely I have some messed up arthritis in the joint now. If not, they will send me to a podiatrist. It's very unusual to have this sort of problem not in the big toe. The doc was kind of surprised I'd been ignoring it for 6 months, but considering my other pain issues he was nice and gave me a break about it.
I'm now on Cymbalta 30mg for 2 weeks. If well tolerated will work up to 60mg as it is now authorized to treat nerve pain. It could help. IF not, we are looking at upping or changing pain meds and that means a trip to the pain specialists most likely. Cymbalta is an anti-depressant that has newly been approved to treat nerve pain, so hopefully it will be dual purpose.
Scary to think how close I am to unable to work due to all the pain. All I do now is work, and pass out as soon as I get home the pain is so much. Please let me hang on. Need to keep my job and insurance. I'm still making it. Don't even think about that cliff I'm so close to.
I know the good Dr. K cares. He cracked up about my comparative pain management chart and I know he wants to see me do better. He kept talking about "when my pain is better" how we are going to recheck the nerve study to ensure I'm getting my function back. About how we are going to follow up the spine test and PROVE it's really better. I know he's serious about helping me. It just still hurts so bad.
