More Medical Whinin' Zzzz [Jun. 20th, 2008|03:34 pm]
[Current Mood |draineddrained]

Dear Doctors,

It is no skin off of your nose to provide me with adequate pain management. It's the difference between me living my life and feeling hopeless and isolated from everyone and everything I love.

Please stop being so stingy. The pain is agonizing. I just need SOME more room between me and the pain so that I can make it. I know you are trying to help, but you need to try harder. Please? I'm trying as hard as I possibly can and I'm still beyond a tolerable pain level. I know you are afraid of complications and long term tolerance, but COME ON, I'm not making it here. You should be worried about me keeping my job, my relationships, my friendships and some quality of life also. This is what the medication is available for. Those who NEED it. There is proof that my nerve isn't functioning. The evidence isn't in question as to why I need it. I need it because my nerve is agonizingly compromised! My nerve is freaking out and now so am I.

Painfully yours,

p.s. I can haz mor drugz?

If I could I'd give you some of my meds.

Actually I was thinking about you. I was reading about a treatment for chronic severe pain called Prialt. It's pretty extreme, but the pain relief is supposed to be miraculous. It's made from the venom of the cone snail (well, synethetically anyway). I thought maybe you could look at it (as a long term possibility) or talk to your pain management doc about some options similar to it.

I hope you feel better soon. I'm having some nasty days, too. Blech.

It's going to be super interesting next week to find out how I react post surgery to the hilarious numbing fanny pack in my belly combined with the valium and percocet for post surgery. I warned them that percocet only lasts 2 hours MAX in my body, but that didn't stop them from giving that to me. *shrugs* I guess I'll just be taking it every 2 hours then and when I run out they can refill it.

If the numbing stuff works for the nerve pain too, maybe they will consider a pain pump or nerve block? Really I think they need to do something for the nerve itself. It hurts so much that it takes too strong of meds too often to get it under control. I wish so much that the lyrica had worked. I had my first days on pain level ZERO on that stuff. If it hadn't given me that 23 day migraine I'd still be on it. I think they are close to a non-narcotic solution since that one worked for me, but MAN they need to do something until then so I can at least sleep through the night and relax my jaw. I know you understand that pain tenseness where you can't even force your jaw to unclench. (sigh). Not sure if your pain is the same because it's so intense. I wouldn't trade you, my dear, because at least I don't have real safety concerns and it's limited to just 1/4 of my body for the very intense pain.

I am so sorry to hear you are having more days that are just awful. I wish they would give you your surgery already. It's time for them to act to make you feel better.

"I guess I'll just be taking it every 2 hours"

This sentence worries me not because of the Oxycodone in the Percocets, but the Acetominophen. Taking more than 4000mg per day will blow out your liver and then you'd have a whole new set of nasty problems.

Maybe talk to your doctor about plain Oxycodone without the Acetaminophen, it would definitely be safer.

I know about the limit. I won't exceed it. I don't plan to take 2 every 2 hours, but 1 every 2 hours rather than 2 every 4 hours.
