Ankle Tattoo [Feb. 29th, 2008|03:04 pm]
Lanette
This is sort of picture heavy. I'd like to get a tattoo that covers my current tattoo. I love my lower back tattoo, so I've included a photo of that. Basically, I like anything decorative and swirly, and which has jewels and sparkles to it. I also love moons and stars still. I don't want anything negative to me, such as skulls, daggers, ect. One of the coolest tattoos I saw was a swirly bunch of stars and a black hole with a black background. I'd like something like that, but I have no idea what covers an older tattoo. I'm willing to keep the star in the fairy hand.

I don't hate the tattoo I currently have, but it has sad connotation and that is why I want to cover it. The guy who did this tattoo hung himself. The person who helped me design the fairy part is no longer in my life. I want a tattoo that is pretty, but not with a ton of "meaning" to me. It should be art, not just a symbol. I'd prefer the new tattoo to go further down towards my foot rather than up the leg, but a bit up the leg isn't too much of a problem. Ideas, advice, and help all welcome.

Here are the stats of the ankle tattoo:

Colors=Red, Black, Yellow, Blue, Purple, and Orange
1" to 1.5" tall band
9.5" in circumfrence
2" at the largest spot on the outside
2.5" to 3" above the ankle bone and 9" below my knee cap

Here are the photos

This is my lower back tattoo that I love. Please excuse the stretch marks, I used to weigh over twice as much.

For the back tattoo: what plastics are you considering? How would a tummy tuck mess with the tattoo, and if you did the full LBL would it cut through it?

I have no idea. A tummy tuck wouldn't mess with it, and for the LBL, it is much higher on my back than they cut, and my back is in basically good shape, so they'd be pulling mostly UP and not down, so it could still be ok. I'll ask.

my back incision is about an inch and a half below my waist line, if that helps you to determine it at all.

Wow, that seems really high. For a LBL? I thought they tried to keep it low as in a bikini would cover it. It appears to be just above the buttcrack on the surgeries I've seen.

well ... one and a half inches below the waist line would be pretty low if you think about it. It would be hidden by your average bikini -- heck it would be hidden at my low rise jeans (just.) Just not "ultra low rise".

We'll see what the doc says when I go in there. It's possible they will mess up the tattoo. I'll do the plastics anyways.

Yep. And a year afterwards you can get a new one.

Find a tattoo artist whose work you like that has a lot of experience in cover ups and they can tell you what colors to go for. My daughter had a fairy that went round her arm turned green like vomit green in time and now is just a great band of bright flowers.

Thanks. I have a favorite tattoo artist, but she's all the way down in Portland, OR. I'd be glad to visit her again. I'm not sure how experienced she is with coverups though.

Are you going to be in LA during any of your upcoming California trips? You should contact LA Ink and have them design something for you -- they love stuff like that for the show!!!

I'd LOVE to be tattooed by Kim. Her style is exactly what I like.

I'll apply and see what happens, although on my trips I'm up in San Jose, not in the LA area.

I'd do it if I lived down there, but I can't pay for the trip and the tattoo and just leave anytime they say. If I could schedule it way in advance, I'd do it.

That's rather stringent, but I guess they get enough people willing to drop everything and shell out the bucks. I figured they at least did it for free.

I though so too, but I guess not. You have to put down $100 deposit if they pick you to be in the casting pool, and if they don't select you it doesn't go back to you. If they do, it goes towards the tattoo.

Ok, first, you will _never_ be able to have a tattoo that looks like your back on your ankle. Simply from the stand point that you have some pretty heavy colors in your current tattoo there.

(I know I can sound like a know-it-all, but I worked in a parlor for 2 years, and all that fun stuff)

Of course what colors you will be able to use will be completely dependent on what you want. But for such heavy colors, it will take equally as heavy colors to cover them. Lots of black work if you are ok with that, blackwork will always do the job. A piece that actually _uses_ some of the old pieces would be awesome. Like leaving some of the stars or whatnot throughout the blackwork would be REALLY cool! Of course they'd have to touch up the old stuff to make it as fresh as the new, but it's no biggie.

I'll tell you what I would do, personally, is black-work kinda similar to your back in terms of flow and such, incorporating some of the old stuff, covering the major aspects you want changed, though, with a piece that flows down to the top middle of your foot.
It could be just beautiful!

There is an artist out in LA named Gill Monte. He's tattooed many a celebrity, and I can tell you he is an AMAZING artist. He's a little more old school, and if you like Kat Von D's stuff, she's more new school and portrait work, but Gill will definately have a few quality artists in his studio that are both new school and mixed arts artists.

If you have any specific questions, shoot away. I'd be happy to answer all I can. I was appreticed for the time I was there, but left before I was done because I got married, pregnant, and moved ;)

If you go to http://www.kimsaigh.com/ and click 3 times forward on the gallery, there is a very celestial tattoo which I adore the style of. I'd like a band of something like that the most, and I think it would cover it.

The one with the framework of moon and sun and stars? Yes, that WOULD work. :)

I like that one a lot.

Yes, that's the one. If it had the framework nicely on the outside, to sort of match the back tattoo, and the galaxy background, maybe even something like the milky way if possible as there IS some white space in the current tattoo, it would be really nice.

Indeed. I think that would be VERY manageable. Your biggest perk with all of this is the fact that you _do_ have a lot of white space in your current tattoo. They can actually work that white space in with the negative "white space" accents in the new art. I think that would look freaking awesome. :)
