A very famous cat [Nov. 20th, 2007|09:21 am]

Saturday was fun. My Mom hosted a joint birthday for Craig, my sister, and my step Dad. It was very fun and laid back.

Bel came over on Sunday and did amazing things with my bargain roast. Not only did it not taste like shoe leather, but it is entirely gone! So good. She nixed the crockpot idea and instead boiled it for hours in beer and coca cola with onions, a bay leaf, celery and spices. Only at the end did she add carrots and potatos. Also, the Hawks won again in a great game against the Bears. Both teams played really well. We then watched the Calendar girls, but alas we watched it fully clothed which seems somehow wrong.

I have a bit of a cold, but all things considered, I'm not that whiny.

I'm looking forward to eating some food at Thanksgiving! I'm still 6lbs under my goal weight and I'm freezing this winter. I need fluffy sweaters.

So, who is going to those Black Friday sales? I'm scared of them, but need to save money on Christmas this year. Already, looking at lights for the outside of the house, I'm realizing that we don't have the budget to be in this neighborhood at Christmas. People go crazy with decoration and it's almost unheard of to not have elaborate lights. If you see any good deals on outside lights, let me know.

i'm probably hitting Eddie Bauer at midnight on Friday as I'd likely still be awake anyway, but that's for me as like you, I need warm sweaters. But I do most of my holiday shopping online. That's because as a general rule, I hate people. :)

I think I'll try to do as much as possible online too, but then you have to pay for shipping.

I've learned the value of layering for the cold. I bought a package of men's undershirts, the tank wife beater kind. There were like 6 for $8. I wear one almost every day and it really helps. Also I never used to wear turtlenecks because I had no neck before. Now that I have a neck I have some turtleneck sweaters that I swear by.

Don't discount the thrift store. I love it. I've gotten 3-4 fuzzy wool sweaters there for like a total of $10.

We have a nice goodwill here that has sales sometimes. I'll have to check that out. Although, now that I'm a pretty stable size, it wouldn't hurt to have a few nice things, especially before I go to my professional training.

I do as much online as I can and pick up in store (I did it with best buy last year)
OMG black friday scares me.. I am a not phobic of crowds just stupid people.
The only way I am venturing out is if I can come up with a good deal on a leapster for sterling.
Other wise with the NICU bill xmas is going to suck this year.. we're only buying for the girls and something for my mom since she will be here.. and will probably send a gift card to my dad and step mom.

I'll check out Lowe's. I also just checked Walmart, and although I hate shopping there, the prices look mighty good, so I might have to go. We have a 24 hour store, so if I go late on a weeknight, I think it will turn out well.

Time for a reality check

Goodwill, Wal-mart? LOL. We may have had some unexpected expenses, but our finances are just fine. Don't worry about Christmas hon, Santa Claus is still coming to town.

Re: Time for a reality check

Just because you have the $, there's no need to waste it at stores that have a "better" name.

I want lights too.... our neighborhood does quite a bit (it is so odd to live in a place where people care about that - our old neighborhoold could care les about Christmas/Halloween/etc)

I am going to get some of those net lights I think - less work - just toss them over the bushes :)

Big lots is a good place to get lights - they often have them fairly cheap.

One thing to consider is getting the slightly more expensive LED lights: but they last MUCH longer (and you don't have the hassle of 'if one goes out they all go out' thing).

I usually shop at Lowes for xmas stuff. walmart has good prices, but the product is pretty cheap. Me, I'd rather spend a little more for something that will last more than one season.
