Conjuction Junction, Make that Function [Oct. 12th, 2007|12:29 pm]

So, on the topic of being pretty on the inside, I'm working on my brain! It's been a great week for the old grey matter.

I learned today how to create custom functions in Actionscript and I understand! (hooray). I am not yet beyond script assist, but I now understand why I want to go to the trouble of creating functions, and that would be because I want to use them again later, much like styles. I define them, then can use them later, and can make changes in one spot. Seems easy now that I understand a bit, but I stared blankly and drooled upon first being introduced to this concept.

Sounds a little like SQL stored procedures. I'm still beating my head against that on the way to my DBA. Trying to limber the old brain up myself before I take on the CCNA. Glad to hear it's starting to make sense for you.

It's the same as making custom methods in some other programming. So far, I know how to use the pre-canned methods, but this is the first time I can understand defining anything custom and why I would want to. It feels like a big step forward, and now when I'm reading other people's code I'm starting to understand a bit more. It's actually fun to learn new things even though I still don't care for coding too much.

I'm proud of you

You've learned an important concept. More will fall into place soon!
