Marilyn Monroe-Don't say you wear the same size as her unless you wear a 4 or 6 currently.
I was suprised to find out that Marilyn Monroe was not a US size 14. I am not sure where those rumors got started and you hear it quoted all of the time. And furthermore, a current size 14 waist (smallest) even in non-vanity sizing would have been huge on her. On most size charts, a size 14 in the US has a 32" waist. If she was alive today she would be a size 4 or 6.
Furthermore, she had a BMI of 20! So all of the people who keep saying she would be considered "overweight" by today's standards could only have some basis in fact if they were talking about for a supermodel or celebrity.
In fact check out her measurements here.
Also, if you do the math, I have the same hip to waist ratio as she did. That should be "ideal" right? No. Why? Because my hips are only bigger due to extra skin, not because it is all in the hips and butt. While I understand the need to value each person, pretending things that aren't true are isn't helpful.
Yeah, and I thought the "media" was misleading us? How about the fat positive community? I think they are misleading everyone, including themselves. I support their intent, but their methods are as intentionally deceptive as the media sometimes.
