Hubble [May. 21st, 2009|07:41 am]

I love this blog about why the Hubble Telescope is worth the money even in a tough economy. I fear that we will cut science too much and instead invest in celebrities, gossip, bolstering businesses that should naturally fail, and other things that do nothing to advance our species or increase our understanding. Maybe it is geeky, but I think that space exploration is vital. Pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and exploration have always resulted in more innovation that just focusing on survival has.

We're gonna need to know where we're going and how to get there when we finally render this planet we call home unfit for human habitation!

I can see both sides of the issue really, but I think as much time and money need to go into finding ways to get us out there. And the budget for Hubble is TINY. And on a personal note, I have so many Hubble pictures on my PC....lol. I rotate them out as my desktop. :D

Agreed

For those who think spending 9.6 billion over 20 years is a lot, I give you a reality check: http://www.wallstats.com/zoom.
