Well, I've got my old grey kitty an appointment with the Thyroid specialists to make her radioactive on the 23rd. The good thing about this is it is a cure! The bad thing is, it is expensive as in $925 flat fee, but that includes however long she needs to stay there and if they have to do a followup treatment. I'll still have to get her bloodwork after that at the vet, but it will be worth it to not have to give her twice daily pills and the cat lifespan is generally longer with this than the daily medication to treat her. Also, she doesn't easily take pills, so twice per day would not be a great quality of life for her considering that she has another option.

Anyhow, a decision has been made, a credit card will be used, and soon she'll hopefully be back to normal thyroid function.

Awww, that's good news! For what it's worth, Boop's meds are about $90 per month so really, in the long run you might save money by paying the flat fee and have less drama trying to feed her pills! *Scratches under the chin for Miss Ashley.*

I'll also save on litter as she is going like crazy #1 right now! Poor little girly. When she gets home for 2 weeks we can only be near her for 1 hour per day because she'll be radio active! Isn't that strange? It will be worth it to get her healthy and with some more good years in her. Thanks for being so good to both of our kitties over the years and all of your support and good advice. *hugs*

Sweet lil' radio active Ashley! That sounds so strange but this treatment really sounds like the way to go. She definitely has more good years in her.

And you're very welcome on the kitty support/advice. It wasn't hard to do since we love them too! *hugs*

Yep! She could easily live 5 more years as she is in good health otherwise.

Cheers to Ashley's Health!

I commend you for doing the Nuclear Kitty treatment. I would do the same for G if there weren't other concerns. I hope I can soon after a couple of months when we determine there are no other complications due to weight and kidney sadness.

You just need to make sure that hour you get to spend with her is worthwhile. :) Good luck and let me know if you need anything!

Re: Cheers to Ashley's Health!

Thanks! The vet said in her case it could give her a few more years lifespan than the pills because she is otherwise healthy. Poor girl was howling at night last night. I hope they call up and let me take her sooner. I'd like to see her getting the cure sooner than a few weeks from now, but I'm glad she's going to get cured either way.

Actually.... it didn't. Well, it did - she's not hyperthyroid anymore, but now she's hypo.
