So, why do people spell out their email like starrynytes4me at livejournal DOT com instead of just putting starrynytes4me@livejournal.com so that a person can copy it? Or better yet starrynytes4me@livejournal.com?

In other hilarious news, I drive Craig crazy when I talk in LOLspeak in our home. He HATESES it. He says I no can haz cheezburger when I talk like loooooongcat.

Each time one of my friends gets pregnant I get secretly terrified inside that they are going to start using DH, DD or other totally cutesy and gaggy abbreviations in their LJ and then I'll have to fight to not defriend them for something so petty.

Regarding the e-mail thing, sometimes programs will creep through websites, picking up e-mail addresses, so you'll get spam. I personally don't have this happening and I've left my e-mail places before, so do as you like. This is the reason I've seen. I think the problem used to be a lot worse.

You know what's worse than that? Me? I'm a hypocrite because I will talk about es-ee-ex and confuse people.

Yep, that's why I do it. To foil the crawlers.

I've adopted the habit, too, but I've had email addresses since way way back.

There have been a lot of great efforts to cut back on crawlers' success, though. Anything to erode the profitability is another step to curbing spam. I especially like the pages that crawlers will follow but that humans will not, that have fake pages full of dozens of randomly generated but bogus email addresses with links to more of the same, so a crawler can get trapped in an infinite loop generating garbage for its owner.

I may have to do that if you get out of line. However, the posting of cute baby photos is a powerful weapon. You could threaten to filter me out of said phosts if I step out of line.

DH? DD? I have no idea what you (or those people you would have to fight not to defriend) are talking about. I'm so clueless.

oh, and i further want to comment that Brian calls the pregnancy community on here the "crazy ladies" because they are all elitests when it comes to the whole home birthing stuff, and heaven forbid you give your child formula...these women will hunt you down.

i stopped posting after a while and just read the amusing drama stories w/a bucket of popcorn. :>

That scares me. Yes, the world would end if ever a mother gave a baby formula.

don't join the breastfeeding group. :) I mean, they're great for support, but holy mother of god - if you even ask a question about weaning your child before age 2 they threaten to kick you out. o_0

then you'll need the XL bucket of popcorn when you graduate to parenting101, they're even worse. not too long ago they actually did hunt someone down and call CPS on her, it was nuts.

I lasted two hours on a pregnancy community before I thought, "okay this drama llama farm is too big for me."
It made for a much more relaxed pregnancy."

yeah, i do the spacing/spelling it out b/c of web bots/spiders crawling for email addresses for spam. my personal email address is amazingly light on spam, so i'm assuming that it's working.

it annoys me when people use parenting board acronyms elsewhere, like on livejournal. the few people that actually know what they're talking about are probably annoyed and the ones that don't are just confused. i saw a hilarious thread not too long ago on a lj community where the poster said something of the effect "i was washing my DS in the sink" and there was a long thread of replies with people saying "when i first read that, i wondered why the hell she was putting her nintendo DS into water!!" apparently the acronyms DF or FDH have snuck over from wedding boards too.

Aggh, there is a handbag form I read over from time to time and every single woman on there uses the DH term. It makes me gag just a tiny bit every time. I think that is what keeps me from posting over there, I am scared that once I do...I might turn into one of them. Ya know, like steal my soul or something.

I usually spell out my email on a public form cause I have read bots will pick up addresses for spam. To be honest I have never noticed a difference, but am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt since I hate spam more than junk mail in my mailbox.
