Ways you Know I'm Old [Nov. 29th, 2008|01:16 pm]

1. I watched an old rerun of Saturday Night Live where Fall Out Boy performed their hit song, "Dance, Dance" and all I could think was, "Really?" This is supposed to be cool, well performed music, or sexy rockers? *giggles*

2. I am kind of grossed out by the fashion and hairstyles of The Jonas Brothers. When people talk about dating them it grosses me out and makes me want to pat them on the head.

3. I feel maternal towards Harry Potter.

4. I love the Carpenter's Christmas, although I think I use it to justify eating more for the holidays since she died of Anorexia. *sigh* Perhaps you now know if you want cookies what song to play?

5. I'd rather listen to Abba all day every day than be forced to hear a "live" performance by any of the top 10 artists on most radio today. I don't get this direction they are taking "live" music. When I hear them play "live" on tv I wonder why they bother. It sounds terrible. Just keep it to the remastered version please. There are still a few good live bands, but I won't get see them anyhow until my pain is better. If I could, I'd see NIN live for sure.

Venting helps. I'm in so much pain today I had to lay down twice to keep from throwing up and also I can't bend down or force my leg to raise up without insane effort. Pain level 8 bordering on 9. From 0 to 9 in 2 days. *sigh*

I feel much better about you feeling maternal toward Harry Potter than I have about all the women in their thirties and beyond who lust after him and the young man who portrays him in the movies. The hooting and hollering over him becoming "legal" and over his nude scenes in Equus literally make my stomach turn. And most of them are proud of these feelings.

Well, I can see both sides since men of ALL ages drool over Britney Spears when she was 16 and keep loving that "barely legal" crap. I see no reason to sink to their level though. Overly glorifying youth is silly to me.

I was really disappointed by the seeming failure of my nerve block too. I was told by my doctor that sometimes it can take a week for things to calm down, so there may be hope yet. It still took surgery to fix me, and I'm not 100% (mostly because of my weight putting pressure on my back, which shouldn't be a problem for you) -- but the nerve pain down my leg is gone. It was gone an hour after my second surgery, when she went in and snipped out about 85% of the disc that was pressing on the nerve. I was barely able to walk before that surgery, and I was walking to the bathroom down the hall at Swedish within 90 minutes of coming out of anesthesia.

I am ready to have surgery, but I think I'm going to need another MRI first. *sigh* They are so expensive. I was just HOPING that this would work at least for a few weeks. I mean, I know you understand how bad it hurts. I've had these waves of pain so intense that I've had the dry heaves today TWICE. That is just lame beyond belief. They are going to have to do better for me in terms of pain management until I can get surgery. The pain is just uncontrolled and I'm close to tears.

It makes me so sad that many family members told my Mom, "Can you believe it? It's like a NEW Lanette! She's on fire!" Just one day without pain. Knowing what I am missing hurts more than being ignorant of it. I can't pretend it really, 'Isn't that bad' when faced with how good it is to be out of pain.

I guess I'm old too. I don't get the whole Emo trend and I think I'm permanently stuck in the 90's as far as music goes.
Hooray for old folks!

Being old is pretty fun so far. Except for the health thing. :(
