For those who selected "average" in the poll [Jul. 29th, 2008|04:13 pm]

[Current Mood |cheerfulcheerful]

I want you to know that you are wrong. Not even slightly wrong. But 4 BMI points wrong in most countries. I am below average.

Not just for the US. They haven't remeasured this year, but all signs point to you being further off, not more accurate. Please take that into consideration. You may have ingested too much media and advertisement for your own good.

Also, for someone I love, there is a reason it's for Amy.

I never see one thing about you but that you are my best friend who I love.

Part of it is as I fold each item for someone else I think about the things we did that I loved. I think about Craig and all of my good feelings for him. I think about times we have had. I think, "Dear God those short are so old." Yes, old, but it's still him. Then I take the tiny items I wear and try to work on my self-esteem. I say, "I know you who are tiny girl. I still care about you. You are going to do something important. You are already making it. You are the same person in these silly looking pants that look like they would fit no one." I tell myself, you are small, small but mighty and powerful and strong. You are generous and loving and your story is far from over. I know you still. I like you still, silly redhead. So that, in short, is why I like doing the laundry. And the lavender vanilla scented dryer sheets. Should budget constraints take those from me I may become hostile about laundry duty.

Well thanks for that! I'm certainly feeling tall and lanky now, even after the dinner I just stuffed myself with.

I remember being pregnant and HUGE (let's be kind and say maybe 220 lbs) and folding my mom's clothes when I was doing laundry on a visit. My mom is about a size 6, with a few 8s thrown in because we have those child-bearing hips and all. The clothes seriously looked like doll clothes. I was shocked that anyone short of Barbie could fit into them. Of course now I'm pretty much the same size and when I hold up my clothes they seem perfectly normal. Eventually it all evens out and you find your happy place and everything else is memories.

It's easy to forget with all the media out there. THe fake unattainable ideal they set for us isn't real.

For me, all I need is health enough for a pain level below 6 so I can function. Size is not the main goal. I just need health.

Well a cute baby and an iPhone would also be nice ;) I'm just sayin'...

Yeah, seriously! They can pry my iPhone from my cold, dead hands even if iTunes does piss me off.

I am a bit late reading things, but man is it nice to see someone posting a real pregnancy weight. I am 7 months along and 234 pounds and honestly I do not feel big at all. I am wearing XL clothes and I am very comfy and could give a crap about the weird looks my doctor and nurse give me every time they weigh me.

Yeah, I gained... oh let's say 90lbs my first pregnancy, which is on top of the nearly 20 lbs I gained in the two months prior that I was on the pill to fix my cycles after getting off depoprovera. Went from around 160 the day I found out I was pregnant to nearly 250 the day I delivered. Which didn't interfere with my normal, healthy pregnancy, but it did take me a while to lose the weight and I got crazy stretch marks I'm convinced I wouldn't have if I'd just stepped away from the pudding.

With the second I gained 35 lbs (although I was still carrying around a few extra from the first), and the third maybe 50 lbs, but in both cases I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight after about 3-months without a whole lot of effort.

Still, I had three exceedingly healthy babies, and fantastic birth experiences (I may be a little warped; I actually found it very empowering to give birth and I did so without drugs), so it's hard to complain about something as trivial as weight and stretch marks in the wake of that. I hope it works out as well for you!

I feel like my stomach is one giant stretch mark these days, lol. Oh well..my husband is so great about it, he calls them "battle scars" and says he can hardly see them(he's a great liar!) so I don't stress out too bad. Besides I was never really the bikini wearing type anyway, so as long as they don't bug him I try not to let them get to me either.
I hope that my labor and delivery goes as well as your did. I'm planning to do things without drugs as well, but we'll see how things go. My hospital has a tub I can labor in for a while and apparently being in the water will make things a lot easier.

I didn't really like being in the water, but I can't say enough good things about staying upright. I delivered all three squatting, but the only time laboring was really painful was when I was laying down (with the first I let the hospital bully me into things like that, it didn't happen again with the other two). Just relax through the contractions as much as you can and let your body do the rest!

I thought the poll was our own personal opinion? I don't think you are world-wide "average" but I think you're closer to what I think "average" should be if we all took care of ourselves and didn't indulge as much as we do and got out of the house more to exercise.
"Average" will always change with time and culture and varies across race and perhaps even ethnicity.

I was average, but post plastics I'm not. I'm pretty small.

Yes! It's WAY different. They took 4" of extra skin off of my hips and THEN I lost more accidentally due to pain.

Does it count that I chose healthy? Although if I saw you in rl, I would probably try to sneak a donut into you.

My weight is in the healthy range even though in person I am on the "slim/slender" side, I'm not too skinny. I'd like to add muscle for health reasons, but that's just a goal. I don't think there is any crime in being chubby or slender, or whatever. :)
