Hi from San Fran [Mar. 5th, 2008|11:25 am]

[Current Mood |cheerfulcheerful]

On the plane to San Fran I made a new BFF. I turned on the woo and have a new contact. This guy is an engineer in charge of 8 factories across the US. He saw my book and we talked leadership, talent vs effort, how to build a good team, taking risk, and a load of other things including equality. He gave me his card and basically insisted I contact him. I guess that's another one for Linked In. He was delightful and smart.

Once I got to San Fran I experienced "Bart" for the first time. Whoa man. Eat my shorts! Anyhow, all was well until I had to get out of the station and I didn't realize I had to dig up my ticket for this. I inserted the ticket, and it ate it and let me out. Now I have no reciept to expense it. Oh well, out $5.35. It's a good way to travel, however, the distance between the Bart station and the office looks much smaller on a map than it appears. 40 minutes later (between traffic lights and slipping on the tears of the homeless), I appeared at the office. It is shiny and nice, but they are out of space.

Thus, I'm reporting to you from a Phone Booth. I'm tempted to leap out in Superhero gear for that reason. I have lunch with someone I've never met in 40 minutes and I have a presentation tomorrow I'm excited about.

All email from work is going well, so I'm just hoping the day keeps on keeping on this way.

I'm taking a taxi to the hotel. I'm having dinner with an online friend tonight who I've never met, anomalous_girl! I'm excited for it. I love meeting new people.

I'm glad you made it safely! I was thinking about you last night into this morning. I hope you're feeling better pain-wise. Good luck with your presentation tomorrow. I'll be sending ab fab vibes, although you don't need them!

When you get back can you tell me the title of the book? I should read a book about leadership.

Thanks! The book was called "Play like a man, Win like a woman." Honestly, it was a bit outdated. I'll let you know when I find a really good book along those lines.

That book is worth a read, especially if you get it in the library for free like I did. If you haven't ready "Now, Discover your strengths" you absolutely should!

At my company, subway fare is expensable without a receipt. It's worth a shot -- the worst that can happen is that they deny the line item...

I'll try that. In fact, I think that is true at my company. Anything under $50 or something like that.

I went to a yummy new place for lunch. Half a chicken sandwich and a salad. Yum. Plus, the co-worker bought it for me.

Well, that's better than a swift kick in the ass, now, isn't it?

I love San Fran....

If you are feeling like exploring some counter-culture, check out the Haight/Ashbury. You might go across the bay to Berkeley and sit in on some classes and walk the beautiful campus. The best italian food is at "Little Joes" near Union Square--great focachia Hope you have an awesome time!

Re: I love San Fran....

I'm staying in a pretty scary area, so for me, it's taxi to the hotel, seeing a friend, then I'm back to the hotel (this time). No walking alone after dark.

Next time perhaps a better hotel for me. :)
