Love of Art--No, just love of the pleasant [Mar. 15th, 2007|05:42 pm]

[Current Mood |thoughtfulthoughtful]

As it turns out, I have little taste. I am not cultured. I like nature,.."safe office art" and other things that make me feel serene or whimsical and amused. I don't want to feel "scared" or have some kind of political statement made each time I walk into my livingroom.

I am all that is wrong with art today. A person who won't pay money to be disturbed. I had no interest in seeing "bodies", but do have interest in seeing the movie Happy Feet. I'm pleased to go about life in a surreal daze. A bubble of happiness. I see art as something for my eyes and spirit, and I want it to be "nice" and never jarring on unpleasant.

I'm sort of the same way

I refuse to watch dramas, tragedies or horror films. My life is bad enough some days without needing to take on someone else's drama. I will only watch comedies, or kids' movies.

I'm the same way with art. I like art, but I don't always want to be made to think. Artists like Jackson Pollack leave me cold and confused. I can't even look at Van Gogh because his paintings make me "mentally itchy" -- if that makes sense.

Re: I'm sort of the same way

Well, I adore Van Gogh, so I can't say I feel mentally itchy, but I don't like "modern art" too much. I want to be shown something new, I just want it to be nice,...to make me feel nice I guess.

Re: I'm sort of the same way

I have a hard time equating splatters of paint on a white canvas with deep thought and meaning.

If a chimp with a bad attitude and horrible aim could have painted it, it ain't art. :)

I also do not want to hang any "human waste" items on my wall. Seriously, isn't that called "Rest Stop Chic"?

I think few people are willing to say this sort of thing, but there are more people in this camp than the people who are willing to buy "provoking" art.

Well, it isn't exactly "safe office art", but I mean, I wouldn't buy something that didn't make me feel GOOD to see it. Even if it is good "interested", or good "wow that is sexy".
