The Kind of Mail you Don't Want EVER [Mar. 24th, 2006|08:08 pm]
Lanette
[Current Mood |scaredscared]

I got a huge threatening letter from the IRS AND a very expensive hospital bill. They claim my 2004 taxes had a mistake and I have to pay $1875 in the next 2 weeks. I did however have my 2004 taxes done by a CPA, so I doubt the mistake is on my part.

Consider me trying not to freak out.

UPDATE: It's my fault. Apparently the form 1099 for having stock doesn't include all of the stock even if it is the same company stock. Who can keep this crap straight. Blow me IRS! I hate the tax law of our country and all of the stodgy bastards who make it and I hope they all choke eachother to death. I'm in too foul of a mood to be awake anymore. I must sleep off the hostility before I become any more regrettable.

They make it so difficult to do anything with stock that I'm afraid to touch mine. Why don't you get papers in the mail at tax filing time IF you have to report about your stock? I just don't understand nor should I need to take a course. If you want my money, send me a bill you rat bastards. I don't have to figure out how much electrity I used and then pay a fee if I calculate it wrong. You send the final amount, I check it and pay.

WHY ISN'T ANYONE CHANGING THIS SYSTEM? I will pay more taxes to not be treated like a criminal for no reason.

you can always get a payment plan from the IRS. It is probably a mistake on their part but either way they always send threatening letters but they're usually pretty nice about it if you call them.

Contact the IRS

They may even waive some part of the debt, or, as said, set up a payment plan.

If you say, "Look, it's an honest mistake, and I want to make this right," they tend to not be so big and frightening.

Good luck.

Ridiculous. I hope you find the accountant. He has some 'splainin' to do.

I'm sorry that happened sweetie. That is just crappy.

It isn't the accountants fault. He did his part perfectly. I misunderstood. More money, more problems. My stock OPTIONS were in the tax report but the other stocks weren't on the same form, so I thought I included them all, but the stocks I'd had for more than a year never were on the form and I thought they were,..thus I have to pay interest and a penalty. Fuck. I hate this shit. I'm going to bed. The IRS can suck it.

p.s. I gave him EVERYTHING etrade sent me and printing out all the documents, yet it didn't include this. I have no idea how anyone with stock EVER does the taxes right and I just am beyond frusterated. I can't even PAY to make this crap be done right and they have to try to intimidate and threaten you like you are a criminal when they make it impossible to follow the rules. I just feel toyed with.

Oh sweetie... I'm sorry. :(

This too shall pass. It truly sucks, though. Can this year's tax return help with that debt at all?

It will if it arrives in time. They have threatened me if I don't pay by April 19th!

Those poopheads. Take Radu's advice and speak to them about a plan. As long as you handle it forthrightly it'll be ok. They send the worst letters because they don't want people treating it like, oh, say, a doctor bill that can be put off for a few months. You're not like that. You'll be fine. I mean, not fine in the sense of keeping the money you expected to keep this year (which totally sucks) but they have so many people to keep track of (every American who owes more!) I don't think they'll freak out if you responsibly handle it. I wish they hadn't sent such a scary letter - you're not the type of scrub who needs that.

Check THIS out. I never thought I'd say this. My boyfriend has offered to help me for a few weeks until my tax return from this year arrives or I get paid on April 15th, either way it will save me from dealing with the IRS.
